We are a small group of architects whose broad area of work is sustainable built form for the developing countries.

The team draws its inspiration and ideas from traditional architecture and craftsmanship renewed in the light of the present state of art and technology.

 

About the Studio

Dr. Prabir Kumar Das is a design and construction specialist with specific technical experience in Project Appraisal, Planning, implementation and Maintenance Management of community based construction (specially, education and healthcare infrastructure).
Das’s passion is gender-sensitive space and barrier free school design. His concept of educational space is always viewed from children’s perspective.

As a freelance consulting architect Dr.Das has worked for DFID, UNDP, UNHABITAT, ARCADIS BMB, INGOs, Government of India, etc.

Dr.P.K.Das also has fifteen years of teaching experience at University level. He taught at Jadavpur University between 1989-1992. Since then he has been teaching off and on as visiting faculty at leading institutes in India.

Post Graduate in Building Engineering and Management M.B.E.M (Distinction) (1983), School of Planning and Architecture, New Delhi, India
Doctor of Philosophy- Topic- A Sustainability Impact-Assessment Tool For Selected Building Technologies In Rural India: The Case Of The Andhra Pradesh Primary Education Project (2006), University of Newcastle upon Tyne, UK

 

Dr.P.K.Das is an Active Member of the NATIONAL TASK FORCE on RURAL HOUSING AND HABITAT,Government of INDIA, Ministry of Rural Development.

 

He is also the Member of Board of Studies,Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University, New Delhi,India

 
 
 
Mrs. Peu Banerjee Das graduated in Architecture from Jadavpur University, Calcutta, India in the year 1992 with First Class Honours (Gold Medal). She went to do her M.Phil titled "Studies on Transformations of Domes of Indo-Islamic Architecture from " School of Architecture, Planning and Landscape, University of Newcastle upon Tyne, UK in 2005.

 

Her Research experience include:-

Scientific appraisal of Silpa-sastras from Orissa, India. Studies on temples, Bishnupur (West Bengal, India). Detail studies on Buddhist architecture viz. Nalanda. Technological evolution of temples, context Khajuraho (India). Documentation and analysis of Madhi Masjid, Delhi, India. Worked on model method of teaching structural engineering at Undergraduate level. Engaged in the fundamental research on sustainable architecture. Documentation and analysis of gardens laid out in Delhi, India, between 1660 and 1947 as research assistant to Dr. Judith Roberts, Director, Centre for Conservation Studies, The Leicester School of Architecture, De Montfort University, Leicester, UK. ‘Studies on the development of domes and squinches from Mamluk to Mughal period: case studies Delhi and Agra’ as a Junior Fellow (in the field of Structural Engineering Aspects of Indian Monuments) in the Department of Culture, Ministry of Human Resource Development. Prepared the country (India) report on homelessness “The Nature, Extent and Eradication of Homelessness: Case Study India” under a global research programme undertaken by Dr. Graham Tipple of The University of Newcastle upon Tyne.

 

She is the current visiting faculty member at School of Planning and Architecture,New Delhi and Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University,New Delhi,India

Avishek Banerjee has completed his B.Arch(First Class) in 2012 from Pad. Dr. D.Y.Patil College of Architecture, Pune, under Pune University and has joined STUDIO1860 Design Team from May, 2012 as  Associate Architect.

 

His joining here in STUDIO1860 has therefore provided a helping hand to our FIRM as he boosts our Designing Team, Presentation Works and is

"STUDIO1860's"  3D Visualizer.

 

He has for the past 3 years worked extensively on projects on Sustainable Architecture and the Built Environement and was deeply involved with Adaptive Reuse and retrofitting of traditional buildings. He also has experiences in Projects of Housing Settlements, Primary Schools, Community Centres, Campus Designing, Public Buildings. etc.
